My story is not the typical HARVEY story in that only 2 inches of water came into my downstairs duplex in Third Ward. The bigger damage was from the continuous rain that affected my roof, siding and foundation. In the immediate aftermath I reported to George R. Brown with my City of Houston Park colleagues to provide recreation opportunities for children who where at GRB as a shelter. This also helped the parents who were in the FEMA process. After 3 days I left to go rescue family members in my hometown of Port Arthur, Texas. So, for a week I had only driven by my place. After that week I went home to the familiar scent of mildew from RITA and KATRINA. In the months that followed my landlord did not expedite the paperwork process so I lived in a mildewed house for 6 months before anything happened. As of October 2018, I have been in a hotel waiting for final repairs to be completed.
