Title
First Visit Back Home
Description
A few days after evacuation, but before they had locked down the flooded streets due to help prevent looting, I made my way back on a blowup kayak to pick up a few items of importance. Unfortunately my home had already been looted, but due to the high water surrounding my home they only made it away with a few small items, a sapphire and diamond ring I left on the kitchen counter, my Sonos speakers, and Amazon Alexa of all things... all things that could easily fit in a backpack. I was much luckier than many of my neighbors, who had issues for months to come with people taking advantage of the empty streets... breaking in to steal whatever they could find, then later on stealing new appliances, tools, and building materials. That afternoon I almost lost my kayak, thinking it was secure near the front door... but the bayou waters had a really strong current, and pulled it out and partially down the street before I noticed and went splashing in chest-high water after it!
