The bayou had come out of its banks and had covered everything that was normally dry land. It looked like an enormous lake in front of the Allen Parkway/downtown area. Rushing water, water cascading over walls that would never be under water.
These images were taken during the "lull" in Harvey, when it stopped raining for a few hours, then started up again with a vengeance. They are around Shepherd and Memorial and some of my street as it flooded, then drained, 5 times.

While our neighborhood was one of the few that was spared from flooding, the toll was on Buffalo Bayou as all the waters emptied into it. I live not far from the headwaters in Katy and its a rarity to see the street overflowing.
